Some of Our Body and Bones Study
In small groups, I presented this pint size skeleton as we, one at a time, discussed each body part before locating the placement of the name cards.
Next, we laid out a poster of the human body. We observed only some what could be seen under our skin and bones from this depiction. However, questions from the children quickly came about the organs and veins in the body. We didn't go into great detail yet so far, but this planted the seeds for later understanding of our bodies internally.
Demonstrating Our Knowledge on Paper
To compliment our study of the human body and skeleton, we created booklets demonstrating our ability to name (and for some, write) the parts of the skeleton.
Live Scientific Models
Since we've been putting names to our body parts, it seemed suitable to use live scientific models. The children seemed to really enjoy taking turns staying as still as they could for the labeling process.
Measuring Our Height
Today was proof that children really do pay close attention to small details. One child noticed that there was a small numbers on the side of this poster and started counting out loud. It was then I realized the poster of this human body we were studying had a tape measurer we could use to get general measurements of our height. I had been wanting to measure our heights, so I am very glad for the child's keen observation.
We've Been Learning How to Say Our Body Parts in Spanish Too!
We've been learning the Spanish words for some body parts mostly through song. Singing "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" in both English and Spanish is one of the children's favorites!
